BE OF GOOD CHEER

BE OF GOOD CHEER

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

Jesus gave the command “Be of Good Cheer” 5 different times in the Bible. This phrase must really be worthy of note.  So let’s examine what this means. The Greek word that was translated Be of good cheer literally means ‘Take Courage’. Jesus says Be Bold! Don’t cower, Don’t be afraid. Surprisingly, this command is given in most unpleasant situations.

In Matthew 9:2 Jesus told the lame man, take courage, your sins are forgiven. Many times, we are yet to embrace who we are in Christ and what we have received in him. This holds us back from experiencing fulfilment and living a higher kind of life. The blood of Jesus saved and saves, our sins have been forgiven, so no longer are we timid. Hebrews 4:16 says we should come boldly before the throne of grace! Glory to God. So next time the devil tries to play the guilt card, remind yourself that your sins are forgiven and you can now stand boldly before your Father.

Another place we see Jesus tell the Disciples to Be of good cheer is in Mark 6:50 when Jesus walked on water. One thing that is sometimes overlooked in that passage is that there was a storm, the wind was boisterous, and the disciples were afraid, so it was just the miracle of walking on water that we should note there, but how Jesus reassured the disciples with his presence. Yes there may be storms, and the wind may be boisterous, but be of good cheer Jesus is with you. Don’t be afraid for you carry God on your inside. Be bold, for there’s a fourth man in the fire, there’s a man walking on the water. The presence of God that we carry dispels fear, it makes a man bold even in face of opposition. You are not alone in that trial, Jesus is with you.

Through every phase of life, we must let the victor mindset dominate. Jesus won the battle already, the battle against sin, death, darkness and all its byproducts, imagine you’ve seen your examination results and you graduated with a first-class, would you still be anxious or scared when you want to receive your certificate at a later date? Definitely not. Our victory is a done deal, so go through life from a victor’s standpoint.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Cheer up, folks!

CONFESSION: I LEARN TO STILL MY HEART WITH GODS WORD, MAINTAINING MY JOY AND PEACE, CONFIDENT OF GODS WORD, UNPERTURBED BY THE CONTRARY CIRCUMSTANCES.
