“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”

Gal 5.16

The believer’s life is one that was sourced from the Spirit. Our opening verse now stressed, saying, ” I say then: You shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh if you walk in the Spirit.” It would not be wrong but the emphasis on the walk in the Spirit seems more like an afterthought. “Walk in the Spirit” is the emphasis, as long as this is in place, the lust of the flesh is dealt with. In other words, as long as the believer coordinates the affairs of his life from the Spirit, he’ll have a natural life and its earthly inclinations taken under control.

Many times, when believers are trying to work on their character, they focus more on the character flaw, than the power they have over such flaw by their identification with the Spirit, You then wonder why the character flaw is not being corrected.

Fixating your eyes on what you have in Christ, on your Identity as a new creature, on what God’s word says about You, will cause you to walk consistently in the Spirit than in the lust of the flesh.

Most times, I see believers talking about the flesh, how to overcome the flesh, how to die to the flesh, why the flesh is powerful and the likes, its sounds like a good discussion, however, it is a fact that statements like this do not in any way glorify Jesus. It shows that the people who talk in this way do not possess the knowledge of what Christ has done in them and allow it to gain root in their Spirit. If they do this, they will have realised the flesh was already dealt with.

Gal.5.24 – And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

The flesh is crucified, the Spirit is recreated, our mind is all that needs to be renewed by the word of God. The power is to live above sin is already resident in you, focus on what Christ has done in you and keep confessing it, not the character flaw that bothers you.

Your Character power is by the working of the Spirit in you, quit talking negative and stand on God’s word about you, renewing your mind with the word.
