“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in
the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver
full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

‭Psalms 127:3-5

There’s a saying that rings true for all parents: Having a child is like having your heart walking
around outside of your body. As any mother or father knows, the process of raising a child is rich
with emotions, uncertainties, joys, and sorrows. Whether you’re a parent, expectant parent, or
grandparent, there’s an endless well of comfort, advice, and quotes about gratitude to be found
in the Bible. After all, we’re all children of God, so it’s no surprise His Word is full of parenting
wisdom, and understanding, when it comes to the unconditional love (and, also: the worrying,
discipline, and second-guessing…) that goes into caring for another human.
This scripture says, “Behold”, or in modern-day English, it means, “look here” or “pay attention”
because it is very important and crucial. Children are the heritage of the Lord. The word
“heritage” also means “inheritance or blessings.” Children are gifts from God; they are blessings
to the family and are a unique blend of their parents.

Also, children are given to us as part of our inheritance in Christ Jesus. In case you don’t have
them yet, you can begin to envision them as part of your blessings in Christ.
Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to
discipline them. — Proverbs 13:24

Moments of discipline offer the opportunity to teach a child that God disciplines us because He
loves us and that, as parents, we do the same for our children.
God wants parents to teach their children about Him—to leave God’s wisdom as an inheritance.
God specifically commanded the Israelites to teach their children all He had done for them. He
wanted the future generations to have the greatest inheritance—godly wisdom!

God’s Word says: Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his
reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the
man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the
enemies in the gate (Psalm 127:3-5).

Reading that scripture again, Children are an heritage of the Lord…, you will understand that they
belong to God, Who gives you the privilege to oversee, take care of, and bring them up in the
fear and admonition of the Lord all the days of their lives. Therefore, when you receive them as
the heritage and blessings of God, then God’s purpose for sending them to you gets manifested.
Remember, they are not burdens, they are blessings; they are your heritage from God. So, from
today, refuse to see them as burdens in your life.
In essence, seeing your children as God sees them is a product of grace which is only available to
the redeemed of the Lord.
