COMPLETE IN HIM
“And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”Colossians 2:10
Our opening text has given us a brief yet concise explanation of being complete in Christ. We see in the preceding verse which is Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” We see here that in Christ is where the fullness of God dwells in even in the flesh and because we are hid in Christ Colossians 3:3 “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God”, we have the fullness of God dwelling in us and as he is so are we;1 John 4:17 “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world”, we know that the God we serve is completely perfect Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” His will for us is to be perfect as he is and how do we become perfect; it is by depending on him for strength and power of perfection and he will make our ways perfect 2 Samuel 22:33 “God is my strength and power: And he maketh my way perfect.”
To be complete in him we need to believe in the works that Christ has done and have faith that these works have been done for us and in faith and obedience submit to him. It is by faith and obedience that we lay hold on Gods promises because God told Abraham in Genesis 17:1 “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.”being perfect in this scripture means being obedient to God. Abraham was known for his unwavering faith in God and belief in God and his promises and that was imputed in his as righteousness and by righteousness man is made complete in God and is made at peace with him Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Our being complete in him is on the very basis that we have being given power in believing as well John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” and a son of God meaning born of the loins of God and having the abilities of God which is the power in us. When you are born of God you are born complete in him because whatsoever we ask, we ask according to his will and he hears us 1 John 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” and that why we have also been charged to ask till our Joy is full, that is complete John 16:24 “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”
We therefore need to grow in the knowledge of Christ and in the unity of faith with believers keep gaining knowledge of Christ as this births perfection in a man and makes a man attain a measure of stature in the fullness of Christ I.e being complete in him with adept knowledge of him; Ephesians 4:13 “till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” because with proper knowledge of him and understanding of who we are in him, we have better understanding in seeking him and using all we have been given in believing efficiently.
By the finished work of Christ on the cross and the salvation birthed in the redemptive works of Christ we are made righteous and this righteousness has made us to be complete in him, lacking nothing and missing nothing but having everything we need to live in the fullness of Christ. This is our assurance in him, this is our reality in Christ that we don’t have anything to add to being made complete but to believe that God gave us his son and has freely given all things to us Romans 8 vs 32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” this very verse has assured of we having all we need because God has given everything to his son to give all them they believe in him.
