CULTURING YOUR ENVIRONMENT

CULTURING YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Colossians 3:2

A lot of us are familiar with physical hygiene and we do a good job keeping our physical environment free of infections and dirt, if we don’t maintain good hygiene habits even society will be displeased with us, this is however not the case when it comes to our spiritual hygiene, it’s like everything goes, we can listen to the wrong songs, watch the worst kind of shows, attend the wrong events, yet we wonder why we are not growing spiritually. We have paid little or no attention to our spiritual environment, inhibiting our spiritual growth.

Rom.8.5-6 – For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.- To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

When you begin to set your mind on the things of the Spirit, you will start to live according to the Spirit, what you feed on is what grows. It’s your responsibility to culture your environment, it’s not the HolySpirit that will do that for you, you will need to do that yourself. Allow me a moment to tell you what good a spiritual environment does to you, it sharpens your discernment and heightens your spiritual sense, it builds Faith in you, you walk in love, and you will be able to express the fruits and gifts of the Spirit,  you will grow spiritually.

Begin to culture environment by studying the word of God, establishing a prayer structure, serving in a Bible-believing church and paying attention to what you feed on(music, movies, shows etc.). In our world we are surrounded by a lot of distractions, you will need to set up boundaries that help culture your environment if there are certain kinds of songs you don’t listen to, do your best not to hang around friends who listen to such songs. The association helps us breed the right environment that’s why we must have like-minded believers and not forsake the gathering of the brethren.
