Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Romans 5:1

This happens to be one of my favourite scriptures. We are justified by faith; placing our trust in the grace of Jesus, that he died our death and bore the consequences of our fault and now we have peace with God because Jesus satisfied the full claims of justice.

We were never able to stand before God after the fall, sin had separated us from God and severed the relationship we had with God. The way to which we will be restored to right standing with God is by the blood of Jesus, Jesus came to take our place and took the punishment for our sins, it would have been great if he stopped there, that’s amazing we were no longer in debt but he went much further by restoring us to our rightful place with God.

Do you agree it’s possible to repay a debt but the relationship isn’t reestablished? A friend borrowed cash from you, you had difficulty with getting it back from them and sometimes later they pay you back, the debt owed has been paid but you would likely not borrow this person’s money next time. From this cue, we can see Christ paying our debt was one, restoring us back to fellowship; imputing his righteousness to us, that God blots out every transgression, that we stand before him unashamed and without guilt is another, What a Gift!

Rom.3.24 – being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

On the basis of what Christ has done, we can engage Heb.4.16 Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (NKJV)

We come before the Father without any past, guilt or shame.  We have the right standing with the Father. This is what Christ came to establish for us, our right standing cannot be on the basis of our works or efforts, it’s therefore not threatened by our results or efforts,  we can stand secure in that which Christ has done.
