LOVE RULED MINDS
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”1 John 4:7-8
It’s important to remember that when people get born again, they still have the kind of mind they had before salvation, however, Romans 12:2 talks about the renewing of the mind. This tells us that our minds need to go through a transformation and daily renewal until it conforms to the nature of God which is the nature of love.
The Ephesian church was a church that was known to love the Lord and the brethren. In verse 15, he noted their love for all the saints. This is something worth emulating.
“Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints” (Ephesians 1:15).
Their faith in God is seen in their love towards the brethren. 1 John 4:20 says, “If a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” To love Jesus, you must express it in loving God’s people. Meaning by loving the brethren, you show that you love Christ. In fact, this is by far the greatest commandment in God’s word. See what Jesus says in the following scriptures—
“This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophet.” Matthew 22:38-40.
In the words of Jesus, the man that keeps the law of love has fulfilled the entire requirements of the ten commandments (which is the law of Moses that a lot of people are familiar with and are striving to keep, to measure up before God).
“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8
These are things that must be foremost on your mind. If you’ve not been love-ruled, if your actions haven’t been motivated by love, you need to repent. To repent is to change your mindset. Walking in love has no alternative. Make up your mind and train yourself to walk in love. Don’t be hardened against your brethren, your siblings, or even strangers. Let your heart be softened and be easily stirred to love.
