For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Hebrews 5:12

No baby is born for him to remain a child for life, it is expected that as a baby is being fed and given the right nourishment he would grow to become a toddler, then a teenager, to a young adult and ultimately a full-grown adult. This is true with our spiritual growth as well, if you didn’t need to grow the scriptures would have said that but we have a lot of scriptures that teach us to take our Maturing in the faith as expedient. 1Peter 2:2 -As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

It’s also for this cause that God put in structures to help us grow in the faith and in the knowledge of God as we come to know in Ephesians 4:11-15 -And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth are no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Refusing to mature in the faith will hurt you, it will cost you, it’s God’s desire as a good father that the child grows, is not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, you’ll be unable to prove God’s word.

We see that our ultimate goal as believers isn’t to make heaven, it is to grow in God so that we also might become effective ministers of the gospel.

So one of the signs that you’re growing as a believer is that you know and understand who you are in Christ and what you have received in him so much that you can teach it to another person.

Another sign is that The mature believer isn’t tossed to and fro. He has stamina, in and out of season, and his faith stands strong. Ephesians 4:14

Yet another sign is that he is skillful in the gifts of the spirit, having sharpened it by reason of use. Hebrews 4:14

Desire to grow, the same gospel that saves also grows, spiritual growth is not automatic, we must be intentional about it, putting in the work in the place of prayer and studying of the word.
