“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”1 Corinthians 15:58
Standing firm implies not wavering from the truth of the Gospel as presented in the word of God. It means choosing to stand in faith rather than resorting to unbelief. Just as was said of Abraham “who against hope, believed in hope” (Romans 4:18). It is standing on the reality and the integrity of the Word even when one has the option of relapsing into unbelief. This is very important and even more in our day when there is a lot competing for our attention.
The Bible in Hebrews 10:3539 says:
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay. ” “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
I love what the last verse says “we are not of them which shrink back into unbelief but are of them which believe unto the saving of the soul”
Apostle Jude admonishes in Jude 1:3, “… exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints “. this applies in our commitment to the faith of the gospel; it equally applies in our walk of faith in our everyday lives.
With respect to our commitment to the furtherance of the gospel, there’s nothing in this world that’s designed to make us effective as Christians, there’s nothing that comes from the world that supports our faith as believers. What this implies is that at every turn we take, there’ll always be something trying to cause you to waver and even turn your back on the Gospel of Christ.
Thus, it is imperative for us as believers – those who have believed in Christ – to be ready to take their stand for the Gospel against the innumerable opposition in the world. As believers, we should always remember that even though we’re in the world, we’re not of the world. We should hold fast to our confession knowing that our work and walk of faith is not in vain in the Lord.
Standing Firm is not distancing ourselves from the world, rather it is to hold dear our faith and proclaim it with an assurance of what we know we have received. We must not be pressured to talk or act like the people of this world who have no faith, we must stand firm and distinctively show we are of The Light.

CONFESSION: I BOLDLY DECLARE THAT I AM FIRMLY ROOTED, I DO NOT WAIVER NOR SHRINK BACK INTO UNBELIEF. I BOLDLY DECLARE THAT BY THE WORKING OF GOD’S SPIRIT IN ME, I DO NOT RELAPSE INTO THE SIMILITUDE OF THE OLD WAYS OF LIFE I’VE LEFT BEHIND, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
